Court Appointed Counsel

Appointment Process

If you are a licensed attorney and interested in serving as Court Appointed Counsel on minors, contempt, abandonment, SCRA, guardianship, and conservatorship, you must submit a completed application. Applications are reviewed by the Family Law and Probate Supervising Judge.

Requirements

  1. Attorney must be in good standing with the State Bar of California.
  2. Have professional liability insurance or demonstrate to the court that he or she is adequately self-insured.
  3. Attorneys must meet certain education, training, and experience requirements as outlined in the CRC 5.242, 7.1102, and 7.1103
  4. For a family law appointment, counsel must comply with Local Rule 6.14, which includes the filing of a declaration about their qualifications upon appointment.

Claim for Payment

Claim for Payment – Appointed Counsel claim forms must be submitted in duplicate with supporting documentation, if applicable, no later than 180 days after the last action taken on the case.
